Bittersweet

This is a bittersweet post to write.

Bitter because we lost our sweet Moxie to complications after the birth of her puppies. We have been grieving the loss of a very dear family pet. We miss the wagging tail when we come home, the way she rubbed through our legs in a good morning hug and her mid-dream sleep howls. Sadness is particularly hard when you don't have your faithful friend to console you - Moxie was always the shoulder to cry on and the constant presence through pain for all of us.

Moxie took a loooong nap on the couch the day before she went into labor.

Moxie had a friend in the whelping box with her when labor began.

So for those of you who took one of Moxie's previous pups home with you after the loss of your own dear pet, we understand how you felt and are doubly glad today that your home is once again full of "Airedale-ness."

There is sweetness still in our home in the form of three really great pups. They were born healthy and strong and were even able to nurse a few times before we lost Moxie. They seem to be thriving on puppy formula and are gaining weight and progressing through developmental milestones at the same rate that our previous litters have.

We have two girls and one boy. We have been planning all along to keep a female knowing that this would be Moxie's last litter. So we have just one male and one female looking for families.

Their eyes are open and they are making us laugh with their "drunken sailor" first attempts at walking and running. They are testing out their vocal cords and surprise themselves every now and then with a cute little growl or bark. It's sweet to find a little dark-eyed face looking up at us from their box when it's feeding time!

The pups were born January 27th and will be ready to go to their new homes the end of March. They will have been wormed and have had immunizations. Since there are just three we are already able to do some preliminary potty training with them and are hopeful that they will have a good start before they leave our home. We also have plans to invite a couple of Moxie's best doggie friends over every now and then to play with the pups and give them chances to socialize with big dogs.

The last few weeks have been a blur of sadness, round the clock puppy care, and smiles brought about by sweet puppy kisses. If you have contacted us via phone or email and haven't heard back from us yet, we apologize - messages may have fallen through the cracks. Please contact us again.

We are looking forward to placing these two puppies in great homes soon!

Only 3 Puppies Left - 5 Have Gone Home!!

Our puppies are now 9 weeks old and are heading home.  5 have left their littermates and are enjoying life with their new families.  Scroll down to the bottom of this post to see some pictures of the pups who have left.

3 puppies are still waiting to be matched with families.  Check out their information below and use the Contact button to talk with us if you think one of them might belong in your family!

Gold Male
Gold is the largest of the 3 available pups but he's a real snuggler.  He might grow up to think he's a lap dog!  He loves to play and roughhouse with his brothers but will quit sooner and come look for human attention.

Blue Male
Blue is a big guy as well and has the unique feature of white tips on his paws.  He's a playful little guy who is really looking for someone to do stuff with him.  He's got a silly personality and just loves to play with his people.

Silver Male
Silver has a quick mind and loves to investigate new things.  He's the first to try to drink out of the hose or put his paws in something to figure out what it is.  He gives good attention to his people trying to figure out what they are trying to teach him to do.  He loves a challenge.

Available Puppies

We still have some puppies looking for homes from this litter.  They will be ready for their new homes when they are 8 weeks old, August 27th.  Please use the contact tab above if you are interested in talking about taking one of our puppies home or if you have any Airedale questions.

Blue Male –" Judah"
Judah is the Fireball of the bunch. He always likes to be playing with his siblings. He still likes his sleep like any other puppy be he also loves to be wrestling with his siblings whenever he is awake.  He has white tips on his toes which is a bit unusual.  That may disappear as he grows, but makes him cute and easy to pick out of the bunch in the meantime.

Silver Male – Willie
Willie is the biggest of the boys. He doesn't seem to be afraid of any of the noises or things in our full house. He loves to explore the house (if he can get away) and any of the new toys he sees. Willie also likes to snuggle with people.

Gold Male – "Teddy"
Teddy is also a very big boy. He is very inquisitive, but also reserved. He likes to get involved with most everything but it isn’t uncommon for him to sit back and just watch it all.

No Collar Male – "Simba"
Simba is one of the smallest boys. He is also very quiet. Simba likes to just watch everyone else and loves to cuddle with people. He often has fallen asleep in someone’s lap while they watch TV.

Orange Male – "Moses"

Moses is a hyper pup, he isn’t the fireball like Judah but if Judah is causing trouble Moses is often right behind him. Moses also likes to cuddle and won’t complain about being held. He likes to wrestle with his siblings but sometimes likes to just sleep like everyone else.

They're Growing!

The puppies eyes and ears are beginning to open!  By this time next week they will have gained hearing and vision - a whole new world is opening up to them.  They are also "getting their sea legs!"  They're trying out using all 4 legs at once instead of getting around using the "puppy scooch!"  Right now it looks like they're a bunch of drunken sailors, but that won't last long.  Pretty soon they'll be running and playing!.

We are taking deposits on the unreserved males and assigning the order of "picks" based on when the deposit comes in.  The family who has the first pick of the males reserved will be choosing their little guy sometime after they are 4 weeks old and their personalities start to emerge.  After they choose, each remaining reservation holders will be able to chose in turn as well.

Keep coming back for updates on developing personalities and more pictures! And feel free to contact us with any specific questions you may have or to talk about reserving a pup!

Puppies are here!

Moxie is a Momma again!  The first puppy was born at 6pm tonight and so far the count is up to 7.  We've got 5 boys and 2 girls....hoping for another girl or two!  Moxie's doing well and it's nice to have little puppy squeals and squeaks in the house again!
